Who are the Resident Associates?

The Resident Associates are Jacobs University employees who live in the colleges with students under the same conditions like students. They do not only share their concerns in this respect but are also affected similarly by living conditions in the college as the students. Their main role is to support the college staff in social and also security relevant concerns of the colleges. They are in a sense the deputies of the College Masters and assume the duties of the College Masters in their absence. The Resident Associates interact with students not only on an academic level but also on a more personal social one.

The Resident Associates and the College Masters have a weekly on-duty Rota to check the safety of the building. They basically walk around the college, through the basements, closing all open doors and windows and checking if everything in the college is in order. They also play an active role in contributing to a positive social climate and better living conditions in the college. They take part in the college team meetings and if possible in floor-rep meetings, to be informed about college related activities and also offer support to them as well as offering events and/or planning and executing undertakings with students, which range from a sightseeing tours of Bremen, arts and craft evenings in the college office, baking events etc.
