Welcome to Mercator!
Dear Freshmen,
Finally, after a long wait, here comes 'Die' Freshmen – class of 2012. We have been waiting all this long just for this time of the year to come, yet it's an annual event. One would wonder why, and the reason is a simple as it sounds, this is the best time of the semester and indeed of the academic year. No doubt it was voted rightfully so in the Jacobs Apartment Awards this spring. This is because of the unique nature of the Freshmen that arrive in Jacobs university and in particular, to Mercator College. For this purpose, the university as whole with all the residential colleges have been putting up great efforts to ensure that this event gets even better and of course, gives a smooth transition to life at Jacobs.
Mercator College has been and is still at the forefront in this regard. We have prepared a series of activities for you during this period that will definitely make this period one that is hard to forget. As our tradition Mercator college is set to introduce you and eventually get you involved in a series of traditions, events, spirit days and living cultures that will leave an impact in your life here in Jacobs and beyond. When you step into Mercator College, you step into a family, a very large one indeed, one that is of its kind, one that has never existed elsewhere before. Because of this unique nature of the Mercator family, it is important that we give you a sneak preview of what is stands at as of now.
The Mercator College Family is so large, it is synonymous of a plane. Just like a plane, we have made a number of flights. During our last flight, the Mercator Airlines Flight 2008/2009 took off on the 25th August, 2008 and flew to 47 countries. It did this in a period of just one year, making a record in its own class. Captained by our experienced pilots, Prof. Vikram and Niky, and led by our all time Best First Officer Samuel Johnson, we were able to undertake this historic flight that left all our passengers more than satisfied by our service. We touched down at our final destination on the 6th May 2009. Because of this excellent service, our flight booking department has recorded one of the highest booking requests so far, showing the high demand that we attract from our passengers. Nevertheless, we have reserved a place for you because you fall in a special category of passengers, namely Freshmen. For this reason, you do not need to go into any panic of missing a place on board our prestigious airline. We still have a few places available as of now. Please make a reservation while stocks last.
For our next flight, we are scheduled for takeoff on the 25th of August 2009. Because of the complex nature of out flight, we have had our aircraft of maintenance since we landed on May 6th 2009. It is being taken care of by best experts in the field, and we are confident that you will get a feel and touch that we have never had before. We have also taken steps, as part of our tradition to bring in a few new members to our crew, as some of our members are on long vacation while others have retired. We ensure that we have the best of our crew, and this is why we only pick the finest for the job. We do not want to spill all the beans and give all the details of what we have planned for you, lest we take the fun out of it, but one thing is sure, that you will definitely enjoy it.
As we continue with our thorough preparation for the flight, we want to wish you all a pleasant stay wherever you are and a nice trip to the airport. We have left a special note with the Customs department for our customers that you may be treated with greater care and diligence when you arrive for check-in. Once again we take off on 25th August, 2009. We will have a major briefing on board on the 26th August, 2009 at 1100hrs. We will communicate further details of the flight at that briefing. In case of any questions and/or comments do not be hesitant to contact us from our website at www.mercator-college.org.
