Second KITO Event: Female Affairs
Ever wanted to spend your Friday evening with Gigolos, men falling from the sky, or 5 women on stage? Well, we don't know what you did last Friday, but we got exactly that when going to KITO to see female affairs on stage. From the moment the five women (and admittedly, one guy) went on stage, we and the rest of the audience were mesmerized by the strong voices and the funny and thoughtful interpretations of classics ranging from pieces by the Eurythmics to the Beatles and homemade songs presented. An 'a cappella' group, female affairs started out wishing everybody “joy, joy, joy” and ended with the female wide-spread and well-known utopia of men suddenly and unexpectedly raining from the sky. But it was only after three encores that the group finally got to leave the stage and get their well-deserved rest after a splendid performance.
Mercator Fridays in KITO
How did everything begin? I read an e-mail from the college masters Mandy and Klaus Boehnke that there will be a new Mercatorian attraction, called “KITO event”. A Jazz Vocal Quartet sounded to my taste, but I also enjoyed the idea of going out of the campus with the college masters and some students on a cultural event in Bremen. I immediately signed up and in the end had the chance to be one of the selected.
The event was in a nice tiny hall on the attic of a building in Vegesak. The group performing was called ‘Four and more’. They were 2 men and 2 women singing all together and on couples and three musicians. There were dreamy and soft songs, but also energetic and frisky ones and all of them in English! Of course, in the pauses they were talking in German and I was glad to find that I understand most of their funny remarks and explanations. The night was in full swing, when the intermission came and the Mercatorians enjoyed chatting and drinking a glass of wine or a cocktail (or cola J ). Then the second part began. It was still more fascinating. I couldn’t stop beating time with my foot. I can truly say that everyone seemed involved and glad to be here, but for me it was something very heart-felt. It reminded me of the jazz festivals I attended in my home-town Rousse. I felt almost like back home – with friends on a jazz event.
When we went out of the KITO theatre the jazz atmosphere was still with us. Some decided to go beck home on foot, even though the night was more than just chilly. The rest got on the bus and continued the chatting.
It was a wonderful evening. I’m very glad I attended the concert. Thanks for the college masters for organizing the KITO event!
