The Boehnke Tree: first blossoms ...
The Boehnke Tree was planted in Spring 2008 at the end of the Mercator terrace. It is a token of our appreciation and gratitude to the pioneer college masters of Mercator College - Mandy and Klaus Boehnke and their little son Phillip. It was under their guidance that Mercator College was born and has slowly grown, developed and started to flourish. With the arrival of the first flowers on this wonderful Cherry Blossom this spring, and hopefully for many years to come, we hope that this tree will help us to remember Mandy and Klaus Boehnke and their invaluable contribution to Mercator College.
The Boehnke tree is a Japanese Cherry Blossom (Prunus 'Accolade'). It should grow to about three to five meters and will blossom in early spring. For additional information, check out Wikipedia (you know, if it's in Wikipedia, it is true! ;-)). In the meanwhile, take a look at some of the photographs taken on April 05th. Do you know where it is planted? If so, go and see it yourself !
