Sixth Mercator Art Contest Announced!
Here is the public announcement from our dear College Masters:
"Dear all,
this is the first call for the 6th Mercator Art Contest.
Mercator College calls for submissions in all categories of visual art to
fit in with the art contest's topic of "CHANGE".
We encourage as many of you as possible to put your artist's hat on - use
this as an opportunity to be creative and expand your mind outside the
lecture halls. Originality is in our view ranked higher than just
craftsmanship, so do not hesitate to get involved by expressing your
personal view of this year's topic of "change" in painting, drawing,
photography, installation, sculpture and so on...Previous experience not
necessary!
A limited amount of artist's supplies and materials are available from the
Mercator College Office.
Art pieces submitted to the contest remain the property of the artist, but
the artist must agree in writing that his/her submission is exhibited in
Mercator College until the submitting student graduates. Upon graduation the
artist is asked to lend the art piece to the college. Nevertheless the art
piece permanently remains the legal property of the artist, which includes
the right to withdraw it from the college at any time AFTER graduation.
The college can only secure the art pieces within the usual limits and
cannot be held responsible if the art piece is stolen or vandalized. It
does, however, pay for a formal exhibition of the piece (framing, and other
appropriate presentation modalities).
After all these legalistic remarks, please be reminded that indeed there are
prizes (all in all five), a first prize of 100 Euros, a second prize of 80
Euros, a third prize of 60 Euros, a fourth prize of 40 Euros, and a fifth
prize of 20 Euros. The prize-winning contributions are selected by a jury
consisting of the former college masters Klaus and Mandy Boehnke, two floor
representatives, the college masters and professional artist and illustrator
Peter Braun from Hamburg.
Winners will be announced at the award ceremony at the End of the Year
event.
Submission Deadline is May 15th, 2008.
Best regards,
Niky & Vikram Unnithan
