Knights of the Blue Communion

The moment their nametags were taken as they entered the Mercator college office, the new Mercatorians knew that they were in for a fun evening.  The college social night was just about to begin. Festivities started at about 20:15, right after dinner time. As they were still trying to figure out why their nametags had been stripped away from them, Rahul stepped in and introduced the first activity of the night. The so called ‘who has my name tag?’ game. The freshmen were given nametags at random and told to find the person to whom the nametag belonged. That was not all; they were also required to find out 3 interesting things about that person. The searching then began. Everyone was busy asking everyone else who they were in order to find their ‘tag mates’. The searching time swiftly elapsed and after everyone had found their tag mate, the introductions began.  Everyone came upfront read the name out load and started telling everyone the three interesting things they had learned about their tag mates. Dancers, mountain climbers, soccer players, bungee jumpers were some of those that stood out. Perhaps the most amazing of all of them was when one of the freshmen said they had had their first drink when they were only three years old! Can you believe that?

The next activity involved drinking a shot made of a concoction of some of the most horrible tasting drinks you can imagine. Every block was given a different mixture. Of course only the brave dared to try the shots out. After all this came the main event – The Initiation! Jenny made sure that everyone had been knighted by a sword and shortly after that the new Mercatorians were officially accepted as citizens of the college by being painted blue an event known to Mercator faithfuls as the ‘Communion of the Blue Knights’.

That marked the end of the official celebrations. However the party had just started. The socializing had not stopped with the name tag activity. It continued long into the night as people sipped champagne, juices and other cold drinks while munching on the large variety of snacks that was available with the soothing sounds of background music providing an awesome atmosphere. It was no surprise to see the disappointment on the faces of people as the party finally came to a close. It could have gone all night long...
